Deacon Mike Bachynsky was born in Manhattan in NYC. Growing up, he was a parishioner at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Washington Heights. He attended Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx and received a BS and MS degree in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College. He met his future wife, Mary Thomann, at Manhattan College. They were married on August 1st, 1981.
Prior to his retirement, Deacon Mike worked for the FMC Corporation in Princeton, NJ. While with FMC he had assignments in Rockland, ME and Buffalo, NY. He also worked for Church & Dwight Corporation in Ewing, NJ until his retirement in 2017.
Deacon Mike served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist for many years at St. Magdalen’s and previously at other parishes. As the children got older and went off to college, he felt the pull to be more involved in the parish. With the prompting of his pastor at the time, Fr. Tim Christy, Deacon Mike discerned becoming a deacon. He answered that call and was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate at the Church of the Sacred Heart by Bishop Paul Bootkoski on June 12, 2010.
Deacon Mike has exercised his diaconal ministry at St. Magdalen de Pazzi since his ordination. In addition to preparing couple for weddings, ministering at wake services and burials, he is involved in the Homebound Ministry, Hope House, Bible Study and he is a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.
Deacon Mike and Mary have three married children currently living in Gardiner, ME, Port Jefferson, NY and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. They currently have three grandchildren.
