Current Parish Projects

07-01-2018Weekly ReflectionRev. Kenneth Brighenti

My Dear Parishioners,

I would like to give you an update on work that is being done around the St. Mary Magdalen de Pazzi Parish. Like your homes, our property needs constant upkeep in order that the buildings are safe and secure for the future. I thank you for your patience as we continue to do projects around the campus. Here are some of the projects we are currently working on:

Rectory: restoring, all window sills, eaves and dormers over the garage. Victorian houses are beautiful, but high maintenance. Every so often the trim has to be repaired and painted. Fortunately, the portico is in fine shape so there is no need of any restoration. However, it was discovered that the dormers on the garage were damaged due to weather over the years. Along with filling in the seams of the trim, windows and replacing the dormers, all were primed and are being painted. The project began with a thorough power washing. This was done to see the extent of the work that was needed. The whole project costs about $11,500.00. Hopefully, it won't have to be done for another ten years.

Lawn: The stumps have been finally cleared behind the rectory. Many thanks to Bobby Paolella who donated his services. Some of the stumps weighed a thousand pounds. There were ten in total to remove. The land is being cleared so that two Eagle Scout projects can be accomplished. They are planning two outdoor shrines to beautify our campus and add to our spiritual devotion. A third Eagle Scout project will also be done this year in another section of the property. Many thanks to Jo Ann and her gardening crew who are actively landscaping this area, as well as other areas around the parish. Their time and talent saves the parish thousands of dollars.

Convent: the Chapel and stairwell to the basement will be painted. The sisters are in need of a new dishwasher. If anyone would like to contribute to this project please contact Carmela at the Parish Center. In addition, the back of the convent will be powered washed. I also would like to landscape their flower beds. We can use some volunteers to help in this project. If you are interested, please contact Dave Beckman at the Parish Center.

Church: The installation of the marble will commence in the sanctuary in mid July. I like to thank Mr and Mrs. Richard Creter of Flemington Granite and tile for donating and cutting the marble. With the many fundraisers we have the money to install the marble. A big thanks to Alison Hosler, Ginny Heller, Karen Amabile, Kathleen Carchio, Susan Rice, George Muller, and Victor Vettori who made our wine tasting a success. All proceeds will go towards the installation of the floor. Adoration Chapel: Mr. Peter Cucci should have the plans of the chapel ready for the contractors to bid later this week. Once we have the plans and the bids I can present them to the Diocese for final approval.

I thank all the parishioners for your continued support, generosity and sharing of your time and talent. All these projects are possible because of your generosity. We continue to beautify our church as money is available. There have been several anonymous donors who have given substantial gifts to the parish, specifically for the restoration of the Church, Parish Center and Adoration Chapel. I want to thank them. We do what we do as always for the Greater Honor and Glory of God.
