Homebound Ministry

The Homebound group is an ongoing ministry in our parish, led by Sr. Pat and Sr. Gloria, for the elderly who are homebound. Drivers bring members on two Fridays a month, September through June, to 9 am Mass. After Mass, fellowship takes place at the Parish Center. Coffee and snacks are shared, followed by a talk, rosary, craft, and lunch, which is generously donated by Harvest Moon restaurant. Volunteers drive the Homebound and help Sr. Pat set-up, take-down, serve coffee and baked goods, assist with the craft, and serve the lunch.

Behind the scenes are the Confirmation bakers;this year they are an 8th grade CCD class. Each student is responsible for baking a breakfast item and a lunch item for two different dates. One Confirmation baker from three years ago continues to bake for every homebound meeting because he found out that he likes to bake and to make people feelgood. The young people have been matched up with the homebound as prayer partners. Each is asked to pray for the other daily. Many of the seniors now have three young people they pray for – every year they receive another one! They talk about the children like they are grandchildren, some of them open their Bible or prayer book and show the pictures of past prayer partners. The joy and hope with which they speak when looking at the pictures of the young people is truly moving.
