Family ALIVE Event

11-27-2016Parish Life

On Sunday, November 13th, the 9am Mass was filled with young families who were participating in the first 'Family ALIVE' event. Families with children in 1st or 2nd grade were invited to experience formation together in preparation for the season of Advent.

More than 40 families accepted the invitation and after Mass shared fellowship with breakfast provided by the Knights of Columbus. The story of the Annunciation was read aloud by one of our parish lectors, John Kane. Members of the High School Youth Ministry enacted this scene from the Bible where Mary accepted God's invitation to be the Mother of Jesus, delivered by the mighty Archangel Gabriel. After meditating on this scene between Mary and the angel, a member of the Legions of Mary led the families in praying a decade of the rosary. Families were encouraged to pray a decade of the rosary together as a family, both on their way to Mass and on their way to religious education classes. To conclude the morning, families made Advent wreathes for their homes.

The next Family ALIVE event will be held on Sunday, January 15th; all 1st and 2nd grade families are welcome. Free resources to help parents grow in their faith are available at—parish code: nr2929 If you are interested in making an Advent wreath for your family—candles and wreathes are available in the Religious Education office. A $5 donation is asked for these materials.
