Celebrating the Priestly Ordination of Edwin Mauricio Tabera Vasquez

What are the few moments/decisions/events that you relied on the Holy Spirit to guide you?

The Holy Spirit is a gift that we all receive first at baptism, second at confirmation and then He is also   present within the Church in each one of the Sacraments.  Before Jesus ascended to heaven, He told His disciples that He would send one who would teach and guide all those who believe in Him. Jesus’ promise was fulfilled less than two weeks later when the Holy Spirit descended upon the believers at Pentecost.

Now, when a person believes in Christ, the Holy Spirit immediately becomes a permanent part of his life. I have felt the action of the Holy Spirit at all times in my life. I pray daily to the Holy Spirit seeking His guidance and inspiration. I know that He is always present in my life, and I know I have the choice whether or not to accept the Holy Spirit’s guidance. How do you invite the Holy Spirit into your life?

It was a great challenge for me coming to the United States leaving my family without knowing how to speak English and to be immersed into a totally different culture. However, this was one of the most faith filled   decisions I made while relying on the Holy Spirit. I did it because I felt it was the Lord who was calling me to accept this beautiful mission and vocation. I prayed to the Holy Spirit and asked Him to guide me.

There have been challenges but I feel blessed because I know the Holy Spirit has been with me all these years. He will keep accompanying me especially now that by the grace of God I will be ordained a priest. I have found that a personal relationship with God is very important to understand the will of God for our lives. A continual prayer with the Father keeps our hearts and minds open to the Holy Spirit’s leading.

Isn’t it true that often times we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes in ways that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will” (Romans 8:26–27).

Pray with me today and allow the Holy Spirit to guide your heart.
