The promulgation of the new Roman Missal in English is a moment full of grace - a new flowering of the liturgical renewal of the Second Vatican Council. Mother Church, who gave us the gift of the Mass in English a generation ago, now gives us this richly enhanced new English translation. In the new Missal, the sacred language of our prayer radiates the profound truths of our faith with theological precision and majestic beauty. Thus, the new Missal is a priceless treasure in aiding our genuine encounter with the person of Christ in the Holy Mass.
Glorify the Lord by Your Life is a broad program of faith formation for our parish. By means of special presentations, workshops, and prayer, Glorify the Lord by Your Life seeks to use our reception of the new Missal as opportunity to explore and reflect upon the treasure of the Mass itself. Its aim is to help all of us discover the deep connection between the liturgy and our lives.
Glorify the Lord by Your Life, is inspired by one of the new dismissals proclaimed at the end of Mass by the priest or deacon: “Go in Peace, Glorifying the Lord by your life,” and is taken from the Gospel story of the healing of the paralytic.
“He stood up immediately before them, picked up what he had been lying on, and went home, glorifying God. Then astonishment seized them all and they glorified God, and, struck with awe, they said, ‘We have seen incredible things today.’” (Luke 5:24-26)
Christ is revealed as the Way, the Truth, and the Life. When we encounter Him in the Sacred Liturgy we find the true way in our lives. Like the paralytic, we can be fully healed; our whole selves converted and made new. Thus we go forth compelled to glorify him, offering our lives as he did, and intimately sharing his mission which is no less than the transformation of the world.
