Finding Clarity at Christmas

4K Ultra HD TV's displays 4x the resolution of Full HD

It seems that each year around Christmas TV manufacturers come out with technology to make picture quality clearer. This year's newest and greatest being 4K Ultra HD. Their hope is to bring you the best quality picture to improve your experience of television. It is most likely the best time to introduce new technology because people are seeking to find the perfect present and willing to sacrifice a little more during Christmas.

What Clarity are you Seeking?

We all tend to search for some kind of clarity in our lives. At different stages, different moments and even times least expected, clarity is a form of Hope we seek to encounter. Clarity tends to help us understand questions like why or how or when? The clarity TV manufactures are selling is not the type that will help answer the questions our souls seek to find. The resolution of television screens, will not bring the type we seek when trying to understand the meaning for our lives, who is Christ and why should I have more clarity of Him. But the liturgical seasons of Advent and Christmastide can offer a pathway to such clarity and resolution.

…'to discern what is of value'…
St Paul – Second Sunday of Advent

How do we know what is the best value? There are many sites on the internet that offer the opportunity to plug in a product you are seeking and will automatically compare price, specifications and even ratings. It almost makes the decision process more difficult and can leave you wondering what is the 'real' value I am seeking? Recently St Paul helped us to understand where we should look for the greater value. He said,' I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it..' Just as the TV manufacturers seek better clarity in their product, Christ desires you to have a greater clarity of your life in Him. The more you seek him, the more you discover a greater value for your life.

…'one mightier than I is coming.'
John the Baptist – Third Sunday of Advent

When people were thinking John the Baptist was possibly the Messiah they were waiting for, John himself said, 'one mightier than I is coming'. It was within their hearts that the followers of John the Baptist had a great desire for clarity of who he was. The scripture said, 'Now the people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts.' I have always found to discover true clarity we must look within our hearts with great expectation. Advent and Christmas are filled with Expectation and Hope!

"Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us."
Gospel of Luke – Christmas Day

As we all continue to seek clarity in our lives, I pray that the Season of Advent and Christmas(tide) are special moments in your life. I hope during Christmas that St Magdalen's is a place for you to reDiscover Christ. A place where you will find a path to Follow Christ that leads to a deeper meaning of life for you. A presence of Christ that will make your voice sing glorious praises so you go forth to Share the great news that Christ is Born!

I pray that you join us for one of our Christmas masses. Maybe you know someone who might be searching for a deeper purpose to the meaning of Christmas; or maybe a neighbor who would cherish an invitation to once again experience the Joy of Christ. We are here and the Holy Door of God's mercy is open…

God's Peace,
Fr Tim
