Welcome Fr. Antony

Dear Parish Family:

I am happy to announce that, as of August 4th, Fr. Antony Arockiadoss joined us at St. Magdalen's as the Associate Pastor. He arrives from St. Bartholomew Church in East Brunswick, where he served as Parochial Vicar. Fr. Antony will be working to assist Fr. Tim in coordinating the Spanish Ministries. He just returned from studying in Mexico, where he has been studying the Spanish language (he also speaks English and French, and has studied Greek).

Fr. Antony was born on the 1st of February, 1976 in the city of Chenai, Tamil Nadu in Southern India, but was raised in Bangalore, Karnataka which is also in the South. At the youthful age of fourteen he joined the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC). He was ordained on the 28th of June, 2003. His favorite saying comes from Tamil, one of the five Indian dialects which Fr. Antony speaks: "Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir" which means "Every country is your own, and all people are your kinsmen."

He holds a Masters Degree in English and Education. As an academic, he has taught in schools, colleges and seminaries. Father was the provincial bursar for his Congregation in India and served as a member of that council for a term of three years prior to coming to the USA. He worked with the MSC priests in Palm Springs, CA and Nazareth, PA before becoming the Coordinator of the India and Sri Lanka Apostolate for the Diocese of Metuchen. He then worked as parochial vicar for St. Helena Catholic Church in Edison before transferring to St. Bartholomew Church in East Brunswick, where he also served as Parochial Vicar.

"Reading the lives of the saints, I wanted what they had; I wanted to become a saint." When describing his journey to the priesthood, he recalls it was his thirst for holiness that compelled him to join the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. As you continue to get to know Fr. Antony you will find that his presence reflects his desire of holiness.

I am very grateful to have him apart of our family here at St Magdalen's. He is familiar with the diversity and dynamics that makes up a family life. Fr. Antony grew up with two brothers: Joseph and Augustine, and two sisters: Victoria and Metilda. His father has recently passed away and peacefully rests in the presence of God. His mother, Margaret, lives with his older brother Joseph. Fr Antony also has 6 nephews and nieces.

You may have already had the opportunity to meet Fr. Antony around the campus. He wanted to communicate to the parish that "my door is always open, and that I am here to serve."

Welcome, Fr. Antony!

Yours in Christ,
Father Timothy Christy, Pastor
