Dear Parish Family:
I would like to share with you that Fr. Joseph has been assigned as Parochial Vicar of St. Bernadette Church in Parlin, New Jersey and will be leaving our parish at the end of next month.
Over the past six years, the contributions that Fr. Joseph has made to St. Magdalen are invaluable. From his compassionate involvement with the Divorce Care ministry to his important task of leading the Spanish ministry, a work of the Spirit that has borne much fruit for the parish. Fr. Joseph has truly personified the mission of St. Magdalen de Pazzi Church. His efforts have led to a more fully integrated yet diverse community. In addition to these ministries, Fr. Joseph has also served the parish through visiting the sick and giving the sacraments to the infirm and dying.
Hailing originally from Uganda, Africa, Fr. Joseph has a heart for helping people to come close to Christ through discovering mutual understanding. His work with the Spanish ministry shows that devotion and zeal for evangelization. As we all know, St. Magdalen is blessed with a growing and thriving number of Hispanic parishioners who bring a great richness to our parish family. From our history as a nation, which has seen various waves of immigration, we see that whenever an immigrant population finds itself in the midst of a broader culture, there is genuine need for those people to bond together in familiar ways of language and custom, in family and in worship. And so it has been one of Fr. Joseph's tasks to serve our Spanish speaking community and to build up all the beautiful and rich cultural qualities which express and celebrate their culture and faith in Christ.
I ask that during this time of transition, you pray for Fr. Joseph so that he may continue to echo Jesus' call to all: "Come and Follow Me." Please keep me and the parish staff in your prayers. I am grateful for all you are and all you do in His name.
Saint Magdalen de Pazzi, our patroness and great mystic of God's love, intercede for us before God's throne.
