Holy Sacrifice of the Mass

10-13-2013Pastor's LetterFr. Jack O’Kane

Dear Parishioners,

This past Monday our parish was blessed to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in which several hundred parishioners consecrated their lives to the Blessed Mother. They had prepared with intense prayer, spiritual reading and sacrifice for thirty three days in order to be open to the working of the Holy Spirit. The mass was beautiful and we ask the Blessed Mother to continue to guide these individuals as well as our entire parish into a more intimate relationship with Her Son, Jesus. We pray that Mary will shower St. Magdalen's with grace as we honor her for the month of October.

This past Sunday was the Life Chain. October is also Respect Life month and during this month we are encourage to remember to pray for a deeper respect for life. There are so many atrocities against life these days: abortion, physician assisted suicide, war, and poverty. All of these show a lack of understanding of how precious life is. Life is a gift from Almighty God to be cherished and protected and cared for. I want to thank everyone that attended the Life Chain this past week and encourage everyone to offer prayers and sacrifices this month for the defense of the gift of life.

One way we can pray for life is our week Friday Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Every Friday the Blessed Sacrament is exposed i n the monstrance so that we might come and spend some time with out Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Exposition takes place immediately following the 9:00am Mass and goes until 7:30pm with Benediction taking place at that time. During the month of October we ask that those attending Adoration between the hours of 5:00pm and 6:00pm offer prayers for life and for an end to abortion in our nation and around the world.

Recently, all the priests and deacons of the parish received a book with special blessing for a child in the womb. We would like to encourage all expectant mothers who with to have their child blessed to ask a priest or deacon for this blessing. It is a great way to ask for almighty God's protection throughout your pregnancy and to ask for a healthy and happy child.

As we reach the middle of October, parish life is in full swing. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful place to encounter God but we must also remember that we have an important role to play in making St. Magdalen's the dynamic parish that it is. Everyone's participation at Mass is needed. Everyone's help in encouraging our youth to know and love and practice the faith is vital. May God bless you all for all you do in His name.

In Christ,
Fr. Jack
